For admission to the Ph.D. in ICT program, a candidate:

  • must have a minimum GPA of 3.50 out of 5.00 or a first division or equivalent in S.S.C. and H.S.C. or in equivalent examinations.
  • must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering or Computer Engineering or Computer Science or Information Technology or Information and Communication Technology or Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent degree having at least 50% marks or minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 or its equivalent from any recognized university.
  • must have an M.Sc. Engg. / M.Engg./ M.Sc. degree in Computer Science and Engineering or Computer Engineering or Computer Science or Information Technology or Information and Communication Technology or Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent degree having at least a minimum GPA of 2.75 out of 4.0 or its equivalent from any recognized university.

An applicant will have to submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP) and appear for a viva voce. The SOP should be 1-2 pages highlighting academic profile, publications, research interests, and research plans. Applicants are encouraged to communicate with prospective supervisors before the viva.

Applications for admission to the Ph.D. program are usually invited through regular means of advertisement, where candidates have to apply online on the BUET website’s PG Admission Section. In case there is no application portal, candidates may still apply to the Registrar’s Office with hard copies of the application, SOP, all previous academic certificates and transcripts, and a list of publications. In the application, it has to be clearly mentioned that you are applying to “Ph.D. in ICT at IICT, BUET”.
